Pre-College Summer Studios is an intensive four-week program for the high school artist entering grades 11–12. With the opportunity to earn three college credits, students preview and experience a condensed version of a Freshman Foundation year by attending foundation classes and an elective as they prepare for higher education. Students from around the world come together to experience MassArt and the environment of a higher education institution in the visual arts. The program is ideal for students:

Parsons Summer Intensive Studies: New York is a three-credit introductory-level art and design program enriched by the vast resources of New York City. This immersion in the art and design college environment is designed for high school students 16 to 18* years old and for recent high school graduates. In all studio courses, students develop portfolio pieces for college admission applications.
Parsons is NASAD accredited and a member of AICAD and NPDA. It is considered the top fashion design program in the US and is part of the New School.

Sotheby’s Institute offers professional courses and degree programs through its partners, University of Manchester, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The Boston University School of Visual Arts’ Summer Institute offers high school students an intensive four-week visual arts program designed to help students build exceptional portfolios. Whether preparing portfolios for college admission or simply working to improve technical abilities, students are introduced to a full range of materials and methods used in professional artistic practice.
In addition to classes and studio time, students visit and study works of art in area museums, participate in special workshops, and experience life as a Boston University student.

The Tisch Summer High School Program is tuition-based and culminates in six college credits. This program is not a leisure summer camp; it is a commitment of four weeks on campus that encompasses a highly structured class schedule, which include projects, professional training, and collaboration. The classes are based on the Tisch undergraduate curriculum. Students in the Tisch Summer High School Program are expected to complete any coursework and professional training requirements of the artistic track they are enrolled in. Students apply to one of these artistic tracks: Dance, Drama, Production & Design, Dramatic Writing, Filmmaking, Game Design, Photography and Imaging, or Recorded Music.*
Eligibility: You must be a current high school junior in order to be eligible for the filmmaking program. For all other programs, you must be a current sophomore or junior.
School of Visual Arts (SVA)

SVA Summer Pre-College is an intensive three-week program that provides the experience of attending art school in the heart of New York City. Students are immersed in their chosen field of study through unique studio projects and instruction from SVA’s award-winning faculty. Classes are taught Monday through Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm and take place in SVA facilities. The program is further enhanced by a robust offering of evening and weekend chaperoned activities and events that take full advantage of the social and cultural life of New York City.
Approximately 400 students participate in the summer program and 200 students live in SVA housing.
SVA is NASAD accredited and a member of AICAD and NPDA. It is considered a top advertising, graphic design, and computer art/animation program in the US.

Our Summer Academy program gives intellectually curious high school students the opportunity to pursue their passions while living and learning in New York City or Washington DC. Pratt Institute Pre-College Summer Program
Brooklyn, NY

Pratt’s summer Pre-College provides students with an opportunity to build their art and design skills, create a portfolio of their work, and explore possibilities for study and employment in creative fields. Classes are modeled after Pratt’s undergraduate curriculum, taught by experienced faculty and alumni in order to provide students with a rich and immersive educational experience. The college-level coursework equips students with four elective college credits accepted at Pratt and most colleges and universities. Each summer nearly 400 high school students from across the country and around the globe are invited to Pratt’s Brooklyn campus to participate in Pre-College. Over the course of four weeks, students are immersed in art studio practice and experience life as a college student taking two rigorous studio classes complemented by liberal arts courses Monday through Friday. Weekday evenings are spent working on projects in Pratt’s undergraduate studio spaces and participating in educational lectures and events.

Carnegie Mellon University Pre College Programs in Art, Architecture, Design

These are 3 -6 week programs starting late June. All programs recommend the 6 week option and Design and NHSGA are only 6 weeks.
Our Pre-College program, which mirrors the undergraduate experience, gives rising juniors and seniors the opportunity to explore their interests while receiving instruction from acclaimed Carnegie Mellon faculty and staff.
ARCH: Over the course of six weeks, students will experience the interdisciplinary field of architecture through the lens of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Architecture (SoA) as well as contemporary practices.
ART: Pre-College Art motivates, stimulates and prepares emerging artists and creative problem solvers.
Exploring traditional tools and new technologies in a variety of media leads to the development of conceptual and technical skills–excellent preparation for applying to and succeeding in a competitive college-level art program. Students will be introduced to the spirit and substance of the CMU School of Art culture, through challenging courses, critique, stimulating workshops, portfolio development, and energetic interaction with dedicated faculty and talented peers.
DESIGN: Pre-College Design students will have the opportunity to attend classes taught by full-time faculty where they are given a primer on the design principles and practices that are the cornerstones of the undergraduate School of Design program.
Modeled after the freshman year experience, sessions will consist of studio learning, lectures, critiques, field trips to museums, workspaces, and community spaces, as well as guided work sessions with faculty. Students will be assigned their own personal studio space, providing them with their first foray into “studio life.
NHSGA: NHSGA encourages students interested in art, music, design, and programming to apply for this interdisciplinary program. Students are encouraged to expand their own creative possibilities in a unique blend of left- and right-brain college-level work. Sharing methods and paradigms used in Carnegie Mellon's Masters of Entertainment Technology (M.E.T.) graduate program, the program includes an exciting blend of hands-on exercises combined with traditional lecture and discussion.
CMU is not NASAD accredited but is recognized for its strong programs in Architecture, Design and Game Design. It is known for rigorous academics combined with strong art and design and encourages double or triple majors.

Summer Academy is an intense college-level art program. This rigorous experience is modeled after PAFA's own world renowned, undergraduate first-year arts curriculum. Beyond the core curriculum of studio arts, Summer Academy provides professional development through field trips, college application support, portfolio preparation, scholarship opportunities and information about residencies for young artists. The final week includes an in-depth portfolio review with PAFA Admissions staff, giving students insight on their work and the college review process. Summer Academy devotes one day a week to each discipline: drawing, painting, sculpting and printmaking. Wednesdays are for fieldtrips.

Each summer CIA offers a two or four-week residency to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school. The Portfolio Plus Program invites high school students to take college-level art and design courses. You will spend your mornings learning the fundamentals of drawing and your afternoons pursuing a studio concentration of your choice: communication design, fashion design, or studio art. With guidance from Sam Fox School faculty, you will work throughout our intensive three-week program to develop strong portfolios for college admission. Every summer, high school students from around the world come to Ringling College for an intense four-week art and design program that lets them experience a taste of college-level work and earn college credit. Participants all live in Ringling residence halls and get acquainted with our cutting-edge, professional facilities. The Pre-College curriculum is immersive and a lot is packed into four short weeks. Students develop a focus on projects and ideas. Classes and immersions are designed to encourage and support a concentration and flow to maintain a steady discourse within the group as a whole. Pre-College students are required to attend all academic classes and co-curricular events and are encouraged to participate in a variety of additional Student Life activities that round out the Pre-College experience. The academic activities may include guest speakers, exhibitions, several free mini-workshops, field trips, presentations, as well as Open Studio time to complete assignments. SCAD Summer Seminars
Summer Seminars offer weeklong workshops for high school students to gain valuable experience while developing their creativity through exciting art and design projects.

SCAD is the largest US art institution in terms of enrollment (13,000 in all campuses) and the second largest in the world after UAL (18,000 students in its 6 member colleges). It is not NASAD accredited and not a member of AICAD or NPDA.

CCA’s Pre-College Program is one of the best pre-college summer programs for high school students. It takes place on the newly expanded City Campus for four weeks from June to July. Designed for rising high school juniors and seniors and recent high school graduates, Pre-College gives students a chance to confidently explore what it’s like to be in art school, live on campus, grow as an individual and artist or designer, earn three college credits, and pursue purposeful work suited for any art and design admissions portfolio.
CCA is NASAD accredited and a member of AICAD and NPDA & consistently ranked among top 10 art colleges.
Curriculum is specialized or combines drawing or painting with illustration or sculpture. Intermediate to advanced level.

One and two week programs in Studio Art and Animation in June.
Students will thrive on our beautiful Santa Clarita Valley campus located just north of Los Angeles. In addition to working closely with engaging artists and exploring studio art or the art of animation, students will have the opportunity to make friends and connect with other artists in the program by participating in a variety of on-campus social activities. Residential students will live in Chouinard Hall, CalArts’ BFA dorms, and both residential and commuter students will be able to participate in daily activities such as film screenings, games in the recreation hall or open swim in the CalArts pool. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a field trip to Disneyland for an additional fee.
CalArts is NASAD accredited and a member of AICAD and NPDA & considered a top college for animation.

Otis College of Art and Design -Summer of Art

This intensive, four-week, pre-college program is for individuals 15 and older who wish to study at one of the top art and design colleges in the country. Serious young artists seeking to strengthen and enhance their art and design skills, as well as students with limited art training, are invited to participate. Small classes ensure personalized, in-depth learning. Rigorous course work includes hands-on studio courses and labs in your chosen Specialization Course (three days per week) and/or Drawing Studio Course (two days per week). Classes meet 9:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Otis is NASAD accredited and a member of AICAD and NPDA.
Curriculum is rigorously skill-based combining drawing class with elective in specialized area. Beginning to advanced level.

UCLA Precollege Summer Institutes provide highly-motivated high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while advancing their skill set in one area of study. During these one- to three-week concentrated programs, students experience lectures, hands-on learning, field trips, group projects, and other activities that provide an intensive and engrossing study of their chosen subject.
ART:
The Art Summer Institute is designed for talented and highly motivated high school students. Each two-week session is structured around a combination of daily, focused studio work, artist lectures, field trips, and a final exhibition. Students may enroll in one or both two-week sessions and choose from Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, or Video & Performance Art.
DMA:
Geared specifically for high school students, the department offers the DMA Summer Institute, a two-week program with morning and afternoon classes introducing design practices in the contexts of print, net, worlds, and video. The program is taught by professionally trained and well-experienced instructors using the most current software and technology. It culminates in a final exhibition and the creation of a portfolio-ready body of work that students may include in their college applications in related fields.

The Digital Filmmaking Summer Institute gives high school students an unparalleled opportunity to study filmmaking at one of the most prestigious film schools in the world. The program is a two-week, intensive production workshop designed for highly motivated rising juniors and seniors. Students are immersed in the creativity and technique of cinematic storytelling and challenged to create entertaining narrative projects. The program curriculum consists of a combination of lectures, practical camera exercises, and post production labs

The Oxbow School -Summer Camp
Napa, CA
Registration on a rolling basis starting November. Scholarship deadline Feb 1st. Portfolio required only for need based scholarships.
Two sessions of two weeks. -late June to mid July and mid July to early August.
Oxbow’s campus is located in a residential neighborhood along the Napa River. It includes dormitories, studios, a dining hall, recreational space, and an organic garden. Overlooking the river, with roll-up glass walls, each studio provides state- of-the-art working facilities that are virtually outdoors. Based on Oxbow’s semester model, the summer program is focused on creating project-based art. The first week, campers learn a variety of techniques and explore their conceptual ideas. The second week, studio time is devoted to a personal project. Participants select a topic, their medium of choice, and work closely with staff to bring the idea to fruition. They engage all steps of the artistic process, from idea to creation, critique, and exhibition.
The Oxbow school is a unique ‘semester at sea’ type of school, where students can attend of a semester and upon return to their home school get full high school credit. Students attending Oxbow do exceedingly well getting into top colleges afterwards..
Curriculum is conceptually based combining art making with rigorous research and writing. Beginning to advanced level.

The Pre-College Art Experience (PCAE) is a dual-scholarship program in which students can earn scholarship dollars by taking no-tuition pre-college classes at the Academy. Students can take up to 2 art or design courses at Academy of Art through an Academy-funded scholarship that covers application fees and tuition costs. In addition, students who pass their PCAE classes earn scholarship dollars towards future undergraduate studies at the Academy. It is a great way to get a head start on your university education, build your professional portfolio, and explore a variety of art and design fields.
Academy of Art University is a for-profit institution and the 2nd largest art institution in terms of enrollment in the US -after SCAD. It is not NASAD accredited and not a member of AICAD or NPDA.
Students select two courses to create their own schedule. There is no around the clock residential supervision. Housing costs are not included in the scholarship.
